I love to experiement. As a blogger, you should never lose the joy of trying new things. Sure there needs to be a balance. If something is working for you, don’t go and ruin it. Still, I think we often fell into the trap of:
“Doing the same old thing and expecting a different result.”
Six months ago we were not extremely happy with how many people we were adding to our email list. In June of last year we only added 39 people to our list. Granted, our blog was only a few months old at the time, but we still felt like we were missing the boat.
We finally started making some changes about 6 months ago and we have been really pleased with the results. In January alone we added 368 (12 a day on average) email subscribers, which was a 843% increase from just a few months earlier.
Our blog traffic has consistently grown but not to the same ratio of subscribers to visits. Here is a breakdown of what we did to significantly increase our email subscriber rate.

1. We gave away a Free Ebook & Video Series for signing up. Create something of value that your audience may enjoy. Give your best stuff and hold nothing back. We still get emails and comments about how beneficial the Simple Blog Business Plan is for bloggers. What is something of high value that you can offer to your audience?
2. We created a Subscriber Squeeze Page on our Home Page. This was more of a bold move than anything. We created a squeeze page on our main domain. If someone goes directly to BloggingYourPassion.com they are presented with an offer to sign up to our email list in exchange for the Simple Blog Business Plan. It may or may not work for you, but this has helped us in a big way.
3. We added a subscribe box at the bottom of every post. One of the more valuable spots on your blog is at the end of every article. Visitors are wondering what to do next. If you provided a really great article and have something free to offer them, they will gladly enter their email address for it.
Maybe pulling all three of these tasks at once is a bit much for you. Choose one and start from there. I have personally seen many bloggers increase their subscribe rate by just offering something for free. That might be a good starting place for you.
