“How do you actually earn money blogging?” This is always the first follow up question I get when I tell people what I do for work. It often takes people by surprise and they’ll say, “So, you write articles online and make money?”
The truth is there are lots of ways you can monetize your passion and earn money. Maybe your goal is to earn a side income blogging or even turn it into a full-time portable online business. Over the next couple of episodes of the Blogging Your Passion Podcast, we will cover over 21 different ways you can earn income blogging.
In the first episode of this podcast series, we covered the importance of establishing your guiding principles. This is highly important because many will just chase after the money only to discover that they’ve become a slave to their own business. If you have not listened to the first episode, we highly recommend that you start there.

In an effort to keep these podcast episodes in short, digestible doses, we cover only the first 4 ways to earn money blogging in this session. While we’d encourage you to listen to get a deeper understanding of each, here is a summary:
- Google Adsense – When done correctly, Google Adsense can be a great source of consistent, passive income for your blog. Bob talks about a few strategies he has used in the past to increase his earnings by $1,500+ a month using a few tweaks and being religious about testing his ad units.
- Affiliate Marketing – There is a right way and a wrong way to do affiliate marketing. We share with you a few of the guiding principles for doing this the right way. I know I have personally benefited from doing product reviews and getting them to rank in Google. This can also be a consistent income stream for your business as well.
- Pay-per-click Job Boards – This income stream may not be applicable to all. However, you might want to test it on your blog. You can add a job board to your blog and earn as visitors click and read on the job descriptions. That is right, you can get paid for allowing people to read job openings.
- Email Subscribers – The last revenue stream we discuss in this episode is how to earn money with an email list. Collecting email subscribers for your blog can be one of the smartest things you can do.
Next week we will roll out a few more ways to earn money blogging, but for now consider which of these mentioned today make the most sense for your blog.
