Here are some common challenges that I hear often from bloggers that are just getting started:
- I sit down to write and I don’t even know what to write about
- My blog posts are all over the place and I cannot decide on a theme for my blog
- There are so many blogs out there, how do I choose what mine should be about?
I want to share with you 8 different blog ideas that you can use. Now, there are certainly more than 8 blogging ideas, but this list is the more popular types of blogs that you can choose from.
1. Personal Blogs
Personal blogs are probably the easiest for people to write about because it is all about what is going on in their life or something funny, interesting or unusual that took place. While this type of blog is easier to get started, it can be extremely difficult to get off the ground. Since it is difficult to do any type of keyword research, word-of-mouth marketing is just about the only way to really drive traffic to this type of blog.
2. Niche Blogs
These types of blogs have been hot over the last few years. Niche blogs are all about you writing about a specific passion that you have. Some basic ideas would include hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, cooking, tennis, basketball and so on. It is all about getting a group of people around a particular interest.
3. Not-for-Profit Blog
I believe one of the best ways to promote a cause is through blogging. It opens the conversation for people and allows them to understand, feel, and experience the need. It does so much more than a slick brochure in my opinion. Also, anytime other volunteers or contributors are commenting on the post, it encourages others to join the cause.
4. Fan Blogs
Fan blogs are normally surrounded around a particular celebrity. These celebrities might be musical artists, professional athletes, comedians, and rising stars. Obviously, they are unofficial fan pages, but with the internet today you can easily find plenty of stories to write about.
5. News Blogs
This is for the journalist at heart. If you love writing about current events, then maybe this is the route you should take. If you are “johnny on the spot” you can easily rank high for new emerging keywords with high search volume and very low competition. However, the blog posts can devalue over time because they are not considered “evergreen” content and can become old news after awhile.
6. Coaching Blogs
Over the last 10 years, there has been an explosion in the coaching industry. People all over are hiring personal mentors or coaches to help them in areas related to business, time management, relationships, finances, careers, and life. A coaching blog is a great way to communicate your message in an effort to gain coaching clients.
7. Business Blogs
Small and large businesses everywhere are jumping on the blogging wagon. They recognize how powerful it can be to open a conversation with your audience in an effort to engage them. That is what blogging does. Some have hired other bloggers to do their blogging for them. They use places like UpWork.com to find expert bloggers that can build their brand and reputation.
8. Writer/Speaker Blogs
If you have a desire to write a novel or non-fiction book, then starting a blog is a great route to take. Some bloggers have even used blogging as a way to write their first book. They write several blog posts over a period of time and then package it all into a physical book to re-sale. Surprisingly, many people buy it even though the content is available for free.
As you can see there are many types of blog ideas that make money. There are even way more blogging ideas than we could list here. You could even start an idea blog centered around ideas. What you need to decide is what type of blog you want to start and get moving. Even if you choose a style that you want to change later it is okay. Sometimes taking the wrong action is better than taking no action.
